About Trier

Trier is the oldest town in Germany and is also the town which Eva is from. The town was founded by the Romans in 16BC and has 8 UNESCO world heritage sights. These include The Cathedral, The Porta Nigra, The Amphitheater and The Roman Baths
Despite it's ancient heritage Trier is a rather young town: Out of its 100,000 inhabitants over 20,000 are college students at the Fachhochschule and University of Trier, where Eva studied too. It's lively city centre reaches from the Porta Nigra to the Hauptmarkt (= Main Square), where you find traditional fruit, veg and flower stalls almost every day of the week and where the christmas market takes place every December, and beyond.

There are plenty of places to stop for food or drink (see seperate section) and a wide variety of shops, some of which are gathered in the shopping centre "Trier Galerie" invite you to have a browse. Please be aware however that all shops are closed on Sundays - cafés, bars and restaurants however are open, so you can still have a drink and soak up the atmosphere. Trier is a lovely town, its people have a rather unjustified reputation for being grumpy, but so far we have only met helpful and happy people. Have a look for yourself:

We hope you have a lovely time in Trier and at the end of your stay agree with us, that this town rocks! :-)
